The Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court in Freetown witnessed significant developments in the ongoing murder case of journalist Samuel Brima Mattia.
The primary accused, Joseph Lamin, along with two alleged accomplices, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura to face charges ranging from conspiracy to commit murder to murder.
Detective Inspector Abubakarr Kargbo of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) provided crucial testimony, building upon evidence presented in previous sessions. He detailed the police’s meticulous investigation, including their examination of the crime scene at VOPAD Radio Station in Waterloo. Inspector Kargbo emphasized the professionalism of the police investigation, which he said yielded substantial evidence against the accused.
The court heard how the police conducted a thorough investigation.
Following the compelling testimony from Detective Inspector Kargbo, Magistrate Sahr Kekura denied bail to all three accused. The proceedings were adjourned to March 26, 2025.
The Sierra Leone War Affected Sports Association and Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) Secretariat, representing the late Mattia’s colleagues, reaffirmed its commitment to keeping members informed of all developments in the case. In a statement, SWASAL expressed optimism that the judicial process would deliver justice.
“We maintain optimism that the judicial process will ultimately serve justice equitably,” the SWASAL statement read. “Your continued support and attention to this matter are deeply valued.”
