The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with key partners, hosted Creative Day Salone 2026 at Dove Nest, showcasing the diversity of Sierra Leone’s cultural and creative industries.

The event featured a wide range of creative sectors, including leatherwork, handicrafts, gara and traditional textiles, fashion, visual arts, sculpture, beadwork, and jewelry. It also included live band performances, presentations by the National Dance Troupe, and a traditional batta performance by school pupils.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, commended the creativity and resilience of local artists and artisans. She emphasized the importance of sustainability in the sector and urged creatives to prioritize the protection of their intellectual property.

“Protect your intellectual property,” she said, encouraging artists, designers, and craft practitioners to formalize ownership of their work through proper registration and copyright processes.

She noted that safeguarding creative works is essential for transforming artistic talent into sustainable economic opportunities.

Creative Day Salone 2026 ended on a positive note, highlighting Sierra Leone’s cultural potential while emphasizing the importance of legal awareness, protection, and innovation within the creative economy.
