A bizarre incident has unfolded in this small community, where a missing diamond has sparked controversy, raised eyebrows, and led authorities to resort to unconventional methods.
At the centre of the controversy is Fatmata Sankoh, a local farmer who claimed to have discovered a strange stone believed to be a diamond on her farm in Roborssor village.
According to eyewitnesses, Sankoh showed the stone to Alias Wanda, a young man in the village, who later took it to Yusif Tarawallie, an experienced diamond miner from Kono District. However, and here lies the controversy.
Wanda claims Tarawallie confirmed the stone was a diamond, while Tarawallie vehemently denies this. Further investigation by this writer revealed that Tarawallie took the stone to Freetown, where he showed it to a relative. Sources close to the matter said the relative has insisted that no one should know what transpired regarding the diamond and is allegedly using traditional means to bury the matter.
The matter has left the community divided, with many residents making their own convictions, especially given Tarawallie’s refusal to produce the stone. The recent identification of Roborssor village as a mineral-rich area has added to the intrigue, with plans for a prospect in the area now hanging in the balance.
After efforts to recover the alleged diamond failed, Paramount Chief PC Baikurr Kuhrahray II and his sub-chiefs decided to use traditional methods, hiring sorcerers to locate the gem. Unfortunately, the sorcerers were unsuccessful.
The authorities have now turned to the Sierra Leone Police for assistance. The Mile 91 Police Station has been informed, and an investigation is currently underway. The people of Kholifa Mabang Chiefdom are eagerly awaiting the resolution of this intriguing case.
The outcome of the investigation remains to be seen. Will the missing diamond be found? Will the truth behind the conflicting accounts be revealed? The community is holding its breath, waiting for answers to this complex and intriguing case.

Now that they have tried a traditional means to locate the alleged diamond but proved futile, what if the police couldn’t give them the expected answer, what would the community people do next?
They have already delayed the case/investigation for some days. The same police they always say they don’t trust is now the one they are looking forward to for a positive answer.
