Former Minister and All People’s Congress (APC) politician Madam Diana Finda Konomanyi has fiercely denied allegations that a married woman was gang-raped by her supporters at her private residence.

“No such incident took place at my house in Koidu City,” Konomanyi categorically stated, attributing the reports to a malicious smear campaign orchestrated by “failed politicians” in Kono district.

The denial follows an ongoing investigation by the Motema Division of the Sierra Leone Police into a complaint filed by Mrs. Juliet Issa and her spouse, Mr. Sahr Issa of Sandor Chiefdom.

According to police sources, Mrs. Issa has alleged that she was gang-raped by Abass Jawara and his associates. The incident is said to have occurred on February 22, 2026, following disputed ward elections for the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party in Sandor Chiefdom. All parties involved—the complainants, the suspects, and Madam Konomanyi—are members of the APC.

Mr. Francis Ganda, the Line Manager of the Family Support Unit at the Motema Police Station, confirmed to the Global Times that statements have been obtained from the complainant and two witnesses. Police have indicated they plan to seek clearance from Madam Konomanyi to visit the scene of the alleged crime.

In her defense, Madam Konomanyi pointed to security footage from her residence. “The CCTV footage will show that no such incident ever took place at my house in Koidu,” she said, adding that she has invited the police to inspect the recordings. “The CCTV footage will vindicate me because no violent incident took place in my house.”

“Let me reiterate that nobody, and I mean nobody, was attacked or raped at my house in Koidu,” the senior opposition politician emphasized.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, police have clarified that Madam Konomanyi is not a suspect in the case. A spokesman at the Motema Division told the Global Times, “Nobody accused Madam Diana Konomanyi of any wrongdoing… She is not even a suspect at this stage… We are keeping an open mind.”

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
