Mohamed Koroma, father of the late Emily Koroma, in a quest for answers, visited the site of the tragic car accident that claimed his daughter’s life along Kambi Highway on May 27, 2025.
Accompanied by his brother, Idrissa Koroma, he sought to investigate the circumstances of the accident and confirm whether they aligned with the information he had received.
Emily Koroma, who had recently secured a position as a finance officer with CCYA, and was temporarily assisting the Budget Advocacy Network (BAN), died along with a senior journalist of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) in a fatal car accident on the Kambia highway in the morning hours of May 27, 2025.
Initial reports indicated that the accident was caused by a deflated tire. However, Mohamed Koroma expressed skepticism about the explanation. “Most definitely, the rim and the tire would touch each other and cause the tire to get damaged, but the tire did not get damaged,” he stated, questioning the validity of the deflated tire claim.
During their visit, the Koroma noted a video showing the front tire on the passenger’s side as deflated, while the tire on the driver’s side appeared intact. The discrepancy has raised questions about the initial assessment of the accident.
Mohamed Koroma further observed that the logos on the vehicle, which were visible in the video, had been removed by the time they arrived at the scene. “There was a logo on the car, which was on the sides of the front doors, but now, when we got here, we found that the official owners of the car have removed the logos,” he explained.
He also assessed the road conditions at the accident site. “The road where the accident occurred was a straight headway; it is not a curvy road, and the road is broad,” Mohamed Koroma noted, emphasizing that the conditions did not suggest a typical accident scenario.
Another point of concern for the family was the behavior of the driver, identified as Sulaiman D. Kamara. Mohamed Koroma revealed that after the accident, Kamara collected all phones from the passengers, including Emily’s belongings. “Upon confirming that he was okay after the accident, he took order that he was going to Port Loko, but in less than five minutes, he returned to the scene,” Idrissa recounted, raising further questions about the incident.
Mr. Kamara concluded that they did the video report because they are not satisfied with the information surrounding the accident that led to the tragic deaths.
