The Freetown City Council Solid and Liquid Waste Collection Bye-Laws 2024 officially came into effect on 2nd April 2025, marking a major milestone in the city’s efforts to enhance cleanliness and environmental health.
According to Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, the Council will roll out an intensive citywide sensitisation campaign titled “#Operation Dorti Mus Go” in the coming weeks. The campaign aims to ensure all residents are well-informed about the new regulations. Enforcement of the bye-laws is set to begin immediately after the conclusion of the sensitisation phase.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed gratitude to FCC councillors and staff for their efforts in developing the new legislation. She also acknowledged the Minister of Local Government for presenting the byelaws in Parliament and thanked Members of Parliament for their support.
She encouraged all Freetonians to comply with the bye-laws, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in keeping the city clean.
