The Youths in Moriba town, Emperi Chiefdom Bonthe district led by the Youth’s Leader Salia Kamanda have expressed dissatisfaction over the action of the Sierra Leone Police in the fight.

The Youth Leader and team revealed that, they arrested and brought in one Lahai Ellie Aias LA at Gbangbantoke road whom the SLP released based on their own notion without their consent or updating them on why the suspect was released. They claimed that, the suspect is in the community and bragging that, he is untouchable.

It was reported that, the suspect was in possession with 36 wraps of Kush and a loose quantity of substances suspected to be Kush and a cash amounting to Nle 13,220.

In his statement, the youth leader said, the went on a tour together with his colleagues on a farm they are working on and met some men lined-up buying the Kush on Gbangbantoke road.

“We met them lined-up buying the Kush and we rushed there to confirm and as we approached, they started pelting stones at us, and there was a guy inside who was selling, so we called for more youths reinforcement. We surrounded the house and the guy that was inside climbed up the ceiling, I called the crime officer at the police who sent in two OSD officers at the scene” he stated adding that, they searched the house and were able to get the man arrested and taken to the police station.

He said they took the suspect to the police and handed him over and to their disappointment, the police did not allow them to make a statement as they claimed they have taken the suspect to Mattru Jong and subsequently to court.

He said, they were left in the dark with no update on how the court decision went from the police to the magistrate.

“We did not even understand what happened in the police and the court and they have released the suspect who is in the same community currently. He went to the market and we saw him. He even started using words against us that we cannot do him anything,” he stated.

He said, he was left baffled as to what the dictates of the law against Kush stated and that, they are not secured in the fight. He called on the government that they have arrested up to nine (9) people and handed over to the police but were all released without previewing them and that is a high risk for them as youths in the district.

Another youth commented that, they took a photo of the released suspect and went to the police for confirmation and they were told by the police to go and asked the magistrate who released the suspect.

The Youth Leader called on the central government to intervene and take the matter very seriously as they feel unprotected in the fight as it stands currently.
