A fierce fire broke-out and engulfed a five-room corrugated metal structure located on Morgan Lane along the Hill Side By-Pass Road in Freetown.
The catastrophic event, which occurred during the sacred Friday prayers of Ramadan, left the local community in deep distress and mourning. Although there were no reported injuries or fatalities, the fire caused extensive damage, destroying the personal belongings of the residents and sparking significant heartache throughout the community.
Eyewitness accounts confirm that the fire erupted when the area was experiencing a power outage, and that the exact cause remains undetermined at that time.
Fatu Sesay, a resident of Morgan Lane, recalled the terrifying moments as the blaze intensified. “I saw the flames and immediately alerted my neighbors. Together, we tried to mitigate the damage,” she explained.
Fortunately, report confirmed that there was no one inside the structure when the fire broke out, but the loss felt by the community was profound as families held dear possessions turned to ashes.
In a remarkable display of unity and resilience, local youths rallied to battle the flames with limited resources, using buckets of water and makeshift tools. Despite their brave efforts, the fire raged uncontrollably, eventually leading to the complete collapse of the building. Eyewitnesses noted that the locals worked tirelessly under mounting pressure, hoping for assistance that did not arrive.
Residents complained that the severity of the tragedy was due to the lack of response from the National Fire Force. Allegedly, they frantically made numerous phone calls for help, but reports indicate that the firefighters failed to respond, leaving the community to face the crisis alone.
