During Jum’ah Prayer on Friday 22 March, two Imams fought in a Mosque, forcing the congregation to scramble out for safety.
A truck loaded with Police officers later arrived at the scene, closed the mosque and took the two Sheiks along with them for questioning.
That happened in the East of Freetown at Masjid Thawuba, a Mosque at Macaulay Street opposite Kissy Market, Shell.
The Jama’ah of Thawuba Mosque were forced to continue their Jumah prayer elsewhere following the brawl between the Chief Imam, Alhaji Tejan Kamara and Shek Ibrahim, his Deputy. “Go and find another mosque for today,” one of the police officers told the large crowd waiting to continue prayer in the Mosque.
The wrangle began after Kamara, the Chief Imam arrived in the Mosque and violently snatched up the microphone from his Deputy who was then preaching to the Jama’ah, Mohamed Lamin Kargbo, an eyewitness and a member of the Mosque told Concord Times.
“This is the first to see what I saw happening in this Mosque during prayer,” Abdul Karim another eyewitness reacted.
It’s the Holy Month of Ramadan and it was Friday, a significant day and period in Islam, obligatory for all Muslims to observe holy and peacefully. It’s a time when Muslim believers fast, gather, seek forgiveness and blessings and draw closer to Allah (God). “I felt too bad,” Mohamed Lamin said “This is Friday and the Imams are behaving this way. They are trying to destroy Islam in the community.”
In previous Ramadan months, he said the Imams share the days of the month in which each of them leads the Jama’ah for prayer. Each Imam usually has 10 days per turn. You pray with the people for 10 days, you step back and allow your colleague until your turn comes back.
According to Mohamed Lamin, it was the Deputy Imam’s turn, but he was disallowed by the Chief Imam, leading to the brawl.
This is bad for our religion, lslam is peace and submission, both of them know very well and put on fight in the mosque let police investigate anyone faculty must be punish.wasalam
All this is because money or material things
What do you expect when Imams are busy all day listening to mammy cuss from Adebayor?
Nor to fast dem dae fast. Na for natin hangry all day. Alaki Imams.
I can’t believe this could happen 😊
This is not politics Mr. Gegbai. Stop associating everything with politics. First, look at your last name and see why you’re so bitter. Bo wuna passmark!!
Tell me what is political about what I wrote. I repeat, these Imams are busy listening to mammy cuss all day. It is the truth. There is nothing political about my statement and I owe no apologies. Or are you insinuating that mammy cuss is a political tool?
I was at the masjid on that day no Imam threw punches, it was the Jama that reacted after the cheif Imam who happens to be really old snatched the mic from his deputy while he was preaching. And yes this has been going on for about three to four years now.
Conflict of all kind is always expected anywhere two or people gather….Imams are human too.
Mr Amara Gegbai, I advised you withdraw or apologize for the statement ( Alaki Imams) it’s too offensive.
If you want to be respected learn to respect others, if you want your parents to be respected respect others parents.
If you start by disrespecting our religious leaders we may disrespect yours and even go beyond…
I was not at the masjid. I am out here in London and was simply reacting or responding to the report as posted on this forum. This is how social media can be mischievous.
Now you and I are beginning to understand each other.
This is sad
Let them be suspended and let a caretaker sober Imam be sent to manage the affairs of the worshipers through the Holy Month of Ramadan. Now both of them have fallen short of the expectations and respect of the congregants.
Surely the world is coming to an end, what kind of behavior is?. People who we trust as an elder, Authorities, Immam for the sake of ALLAH Almighty now they fight with one another, they told us not to fight each other’s, but they do fight.!!!! MAY ALLAH ALMIGHTY STRETHEN OUR FAITH…!!!
No this is really on bearable, how these immams could behave like that I believe the immam council will look in to this and take action’s.
Amara…… really you should not generalize to all imams and stop cursing them it is really on acceptable in Islam.
Leaders are expected to live by example but in sierra Leon, it’s a different case .
Law makers fight in parliament for dominance and control and now imams that preach peace and that Islam is a religion of peace now fight in a mosque? Let’s pray that the pastors do not copy this bad example, the struggle for power is everywhere God help us
Very sad. It’s time the government institutes, a ministry of religious affairs. That’s the way it is in many Muslim majority countries. But since colonial times, the center government doesn’t play any active role in Islamic affairs.
I can tell you with confidence, it’s not about the Quran and sunnah. But Dunya material (money and those charities that comes to the masjid).
May Allah grant Imam Bashara Jaanah. As he lead a good example of the role of Imam. When he observed that, members of that jammah only cares about those ungodly matters, he quite the masjid. And Allah rewarded him with Bobay street and many other masaajid. Bearing his name.
Did they continue to fast after the fight? One can not be fasting and engage in violence.
What this imams did is unislamical, they are enemies of islam in disguise, because a true believer will not do what they have done. Don’t they have any shame, to stand in front of the congregation and fight??
There are some sure names that are known to be catastrophic individuals in the country, even in the arenas of politics in our beautiful nation, please check, if those two opponent sure names aren’t part of those Earthly foolish Imams……
Please try to get your facts right @Sierraloaded.sl. Eyewitnesses and even from the comment section can testify that there was actually a malice between two Imams but neither of the two were engaged in any physical confrontation. There’s news and factual news. Just saying.
