In an effort to promote hygiene and restore cleanliness across Kambia District, Irish Aid, through Trocaire, has supported the Kambia District Development Rehabilitation Organization (KaDDRO) with a multi-million Leones donation of cleaning tools to the Kambia District Council.

The donation, aimed at tackling the district’s growing waste management issues, focuses on key areas such as Kambia’s district headquarters, Barmoi Luma International Market, and other high-density towns.

The symbolic handover event, led by Kambia’s newly transferred Chief Administrator, Madam Hawa-T. Coomber, underscored the urgent need to address the waste crisis, with Kambia Town and Barmoi Luma being identified as the most affected areas.

The event spotlighted KADDRO’s Executive Director, Mohamed Salieu Bangura (known as “Med Bangs”), a 30-year-old visionary praised for his dynamic leadership and commitment to empowering women, youth, and civil society within the district.

The initiative has garnered powerful support from key stakeholders, including the District Security Coordinator (ONS), RSLAF, Sierra Leone Police, Civil Society Movement, Paramount Chiefs, District Health Management Team, Clean Kambia Initiative, District Youth Council, women’s groups, media, traders, the Drivers’ Union, and the District Council. This partnership reflects a collective readiness to embark on a district-wide cleaning campaign.

As the leading NGO in the Northwest, KADDRO has recently earned recognition from SLANGO and the Ministry of Economic Planning for its transparency, accountability, and dedicated service to the people of Sierra Leone.

With this bold initiative, KADDRO and local leaders are uniting to ensure a cleaner, healthier future for Kambia District, setting the stage for a transformative approach to waste management.
