Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has expressed support for the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Grant awarded to Sierra Leone.

Commonly referred to as JFK, Kamara acknowledged the positive impact the grant could have on the nation, while emphasizing the importance of transparency and integrity in its management.

In a recent statement, Kamara wrote, “The MCC Grant to Sierra Leone is for the benefit of the country, and the gesture is welcomed.” However, he stressed the need for stringent measures to ensure accountability in both the disbursement and implementation of projects funded by the grant.

Kamara, a key figure in the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), also recommended the involvement of civil society and opposition groups in overseeing the implementation process. He argued that these stakeholders should be “integrated into the architecture” to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of the projects.

As Sierra Leone prepares to utilize the MCC Grant for national development, Kamara’s call for a layered system of accountability reflects growing concerns about ensuring that the funds are used efficiently and for their intended purposes.
