On August 17th, 2024, the Kono Students’ Union Fourah Bay College Chapter (KonSU FBC) made history by initiating the construction of their Multipurpose Sitting Garden on the Fourah Bay College campus.
Founded in April 1964 by E.T.T. Nyandebo, KonSU FBC is recognized as Sierra Leone’s oldest and largest provincial students’ organization. The union has long been committed to promoting unity, love, and progress among Kono students in higher education, and it has played a key role in shaping many influential figures who have contributed to the nation’s development.
This groundbreaking event marked a significant achievement for KonSU FBC, as it will be the first provincial students’ union to establish a dedicated sitting garden on the campus. During his speech, Unit President Sahr Osman Musa underscored the importance of the project, noting that the garden will provide a peaceful space for students to unwind and relieve academic stress. Moreover, the garden will serve as a central venue for various union-led activities, fostering both social and academic engagement.
Musa extended his gratitude to those who have supported the project, particularly Mr. Papah Chendeka, CEO of SeCON Construction Company, whose contributions were pivotal. He also recognized the efforts of the KonSU FBC Elders’ Council, the executive team, and the union’s general membership for their steadfast support.
In a sincere appeal, Musa called on stakeholders, philanthropists, and well-wishers to help ensure the project’s success. He encouraged donations, whether in the form of financial contributions or building materials like cement, zinc, paint, sand, granite, and iron rods.
