Chief Solomon John Kori of Mokaba Section has raised concerns over the deplorable state of the Madam Yoko Trauma Health Center, emphasizing that it has been left abandoned by the Government of Sierra Leone and revealing the distressing situation and the apparent neglect of the health center.

Originally intended to be fully operational after its handover to the government in 2021, the Madam Yoko Trauma Health Center has seen no action from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation or the Sierra Leonean government. Chief Kori highlighted the community’s active role in the project, providing land and local building materials as agreed upon when the Medical Peace Foundation from the Republic of Korea initiated the endeavor.

In an interview with Sierraloaded, Chief Peter Yambasu, the chiefdom speaker, shed light on the project’s background. Pioneered by Ambassador Kathos Jibao Mattai, the $36,000 United States Dollars project was brought to Kori Chiefdom by Doctor Bob Kandeh and sponsored by the Medical Peace Foundation from the Republic of Korea. The project, managed by Mogbwe Engineering & Constructions Service (SL) LTD and supervised by various bodies, commenced in October 2020 and concluded in January 2021.

Chief Yambasu expressed dismay over the current state of the health center, emphasizing that since its handover to the government, no significant progress has been made. The once-promising facility now stands overrun by grass, with security personnel provided by Njala University abandoning their posts due to unpaid salaries.

The chiefdom authorities urgently call on the Government of Sierra Leone to intervene promptly, recognizing the critical need for the facility in serving the people of Kori and the nation at large.
