Gibrilla Koroma, a 45-year-old masor, was sentenced to six months in prison after appearing before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. Koroma faced charges under Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916 for the theft of a wooden door valued at 4,000 Leones, belonging to James Doherty.
The theft took place on July 12, 2021, at 10 Nylender Street, Aberdeen. Koroma, who admitted to the theft, has no prior criminal history, as confirmed by Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson.
In his appeal for a lighter sentence, Koroma expressed regret and highlighted his status as a first-time offender. Considering Koroma’s plea and clean record, Magistrate Bangura sentenced him to six months at the Male Correctional Center in Freetown
45 year old, na now den catch am, nor to en fus tem dis. NLE 4000 is a lot of money in SL. Even with mercy, he should have gotten two years at least. Examples have to be set. You hire a workman, good chance he looks to steal from you. We need to discourage that.
