The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) in collaboration with and IrishAid has completed training of teachers in Koinadugu District on the implementation of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education in schools. The training took place on the 8th- 10th December 2022 targeting teachers themselves who will be well- informed on the topic of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Sierra Leone, with the hope that they will in time spread the word and sensitize people on it.

According to the CSE Consultant Madam Mahawa Koroma, the overall objective of the engagement is to equip the various groups working on CSE in Sierra Leone in supporting the addressing of teenage pregnancy and the alarming maternal Mortality.

“The training is to better equip and capacitate teachers on CSE, so that they are able to deliver the materials appropriately and also to sensitize and inform the communities on Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Sierra Leone,” she said.

She said the CSE training hope to create better reception of CSE in Sierra Leone and serve as a platform for engaging civil society and the community on the necessity of CSE in Sierra Leone as a strategy for the reduction of teenage pregnancy

She said MBSSE and partners want to ensure all adolescents have access to Comprehensive Sexuality Education and that the learning environment is enabling adolescent girls and boys to thrive.
