On Friday, 24 January 2025, President Julius Maada Bio toured the Marampa mine facility to assess its newly commissioned ‘M3.75’ plant and machinery, the largest single import of mining equipment into Sierra Leone.
The state-of-the-art equipment, designed to meet the surging global demand for high-grade iron ore, underscores the company’s commitment to producing cleaner, low-carbon steel.
During the inspection, plant engineers highlighted the transformative potential of the M3.75 facility, which aims to expand production capacity to 3.75 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). They emphasized that this milestone will enhance the company’s global competitiveness and enable the delivery of premium-quality iron ore to international markets.
The advanced equipment includes a Gyratory Crusher, Re-grind Mill, Sag Mill, and two heavy-duty cranes, weighing 60 tons and 300 tons, respectively. Explaining the operational process, an onsite guide noted that the SAG Mill will refine processed iron ore from the Crusher into Marampa Blue™, a high-grade product renowned for its superior quality.

Addressing the Marampa Mines team and local stakeholders, President Bio reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the company, praising its adoption of cutting-edge technology as a catalyst for industrial growth.
He also urged the Marampa and Maforki Chiefdom communities in Port Loko District to view the company as a vital partner in fostering economic development.
“The government is committed to ensuring that investments like these translate into tangible benefits for our people. Marampa Mines has a responsibility to improve the living standards of the local communities, and we will continue to hold them accountable to that promise,” the President stated.
