The newly deployed Local Unit Commander (LUC) for Moyamba K-Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Md Sia Bernadette Sandi, on Monday held an engagement with youths at her office in Moyamba Township, focusing on drug abuse prevention and community responsibility.
During the meeting, CSP Sandi cautioned youths against the dangers of drug abuse, highlighting the increasing use of substances such as Kush and Tramadol and their impact on health, education, and social stability.
She described drug abuse as a broader societal challenge that affects families, fuels crime, and undermines community development. The LUC encouraged the youths to embrace discipline, positive values, and responsible lifestyles, noting that the development of Moyamba District depends largely on the conduct and mindset of its young population.
CSP Sandi urged the youths to resist peer pressure and serve as positive role models in their communities. She also assured them of the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to working closely with young people through mentorship, guidance, and community-based initiatives, in addition to law enforcement.
Youth representatives at the meeting welcomed the engagement, expressing appreciation for the LUC’s inclusive approach. They described the discussion as timely and informative and called for continued dialogue and cooperation between the police and youths in addressing drug abuse.
The engagement forms part of CSP Sandi’s early community outreach activities since assuming duty in Moyamba District.
