Following Sierra Leone’s 4-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers, Presidential Aide Myk Berewa has voiced his disapproval of the decision to dismiss former head coach John Keister.

In a written statement, Berewa acknowledged the difficulties of playing away from home but criticized the move to remove Keister, describing it as “misguided.”

He highlighted Keister’s achievements, particularly leading Sierra Leone to the Africa Cup of Nations after a long absence, calling it an “impressive feat.”

Berewa emphasized the importance of consistency in football and questioned the rationale behind the decision to let go of a coach he views as the most qualified, disciplined, and experienced in the country.

“Unless you can find someone more qualified, disciplined, and experienced than Keister, I say, we should have kept him in charge,”Berewa remarked, urging for more thoughtful decision-making in the nation’s football management, especially considering the significant financial investments made into the sport.
