Renowned Sierra Leonean rapper, Natasha Beckley, also known as Swadu, recently shared heartfelt reflections on her Islamic journey of faith and proficiency in a Facebook post.
In a recent facebook post, she expresses profound gratitude for the opportunity to observe Ramadan, emphasizing that fasting is a significant gift. She honored those who did not live to witness the sacred month, offering prayers for their souls.
It has been nearly two years since Beckley confirmed her conversion to Islam on October 28, 2022. In her announcement, she revealed that the decision to embrace Islam had been on her mind for over a year, stating, “I converted to Islam this Friday. I’ll explain the story soon, but I have been battling with this decision for 1 year and 1 month. On Friday, I decided to take the leap and START THE JOURNEY.”
“I am a rapper , Allah blessed me with a gift that other can consider a curse , but Allahamdulillah for the blessings that music has given to me , I can brag to say that I am a force not only in my country but in Africa,” she stated.
“I know that I will not learn everything I need to know immediately, but I’ll put in the effort,” she shared, reflecting on the personal nature of her religious journey. While her music career remains vibrant, she acknowledges that the path of faith comes with its challenges, including criticism regarding her dress code and appearance.
In her message to those identifying as “Ramadan Muslims,” she extends prayers for a smooth journey in their faith experiences. Beckley emphasizes the importance of compassion and understanding within the Muslim community, urging others to support one another without judgment.
As part of the upcoming community celebrations, she announced that the Freetown Ramadan Bazaar would take place from March 21-23 at the Gigibonta car park. Stating that the event promises to offer a free Islamic shopping experience as the community prepares for Eid, emphasizing the spirit of unity and togetherness during the sacred period.
