Is the Chief Minister above the law to have violated traffic rules and caused road accident?
The vehicle of the Chief Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa was seen using the opposite route of Spur Road. As a result, his vehicle ran into an accident with motor bikes.
Vehicles users if going towards Wilberforce are expected to use the right side or path of the two-way road Spur Road.
Instead, the Chief Minister’s vehicle was seen plying the other side of the two-way road which vehicles going towards Lumley should use.
This break of traffic rules endangers road users just as it happens with the Chief Minister’s going against established traffic rules.
This is not the first. Government vehicles usually violate traffic rules without being questioned by traffic police officers.
Are there different rules for different people? Or Ministers are above the law?
I am a victim of similar situation, I was hit by a government vehicle in 2019, I was moving from Njala campus to Bo. No action was taken by the Tiama police because the vehicle had a government registration. That accident left me stranded and it made me lose my scholarship. Up till now I haven’t got my health back, I am still struggling with a broken femur. This has impacted my life so negatively that, it’s also affecting my academic.
But this is Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 where people suffer because they are poor.
😭😭😭😭😭
No body or no one is above the law even Government Ministers but, there are exception. In the event when there are urgent needs for the chief minister or other government ministers for fast movement, it needful to violet traffic rule. More when they are on official functions. So the idea of asking if the Chief Minister is above the law does goes with exceptions. If I may ask, are you journalists above the traffic law by using vehicles unlicensed and without number plate? But often just seeing tagged (PRESS). What do you have to say about it?
