In a move to ensure thorough examination of the proposed Child Rights Act of 2024, the Sierra Leone Parliament has referred the Bill to the Legislative Committee for further review.
To promote inclusivity in the legislative process, the Office of the Clerk has invited members of the public to submit position papers on the Bill prior to its potential enactment.
This call for submissions is open to a broad range of stakeholders, including government ministries, departments, agencies, international organizations like UNICEF, and local child rights groups.
These position papers, which are intended to provide insights, suggestions, and critiques, must be submitted to the Chairman of the Legislative Committee by Friday, October 8, 2024, no later than 3:00 PM.
Given the importance of the Child Rights Act in shaping policies affecting the welfare and protection of children in Sierra Leone, the invitation extends to all child advocacy groups and concerned individuals.
Parliament emphasizes the need for widespread participation in this process, highlighting the critical nature of the Bill and the opportunity for stakeholders to influence its final form.
