Authorities at the Gbalamuya Customs Post have intercepted a significant quantity of tramadol capsules during a routine inspection conducted by the Anti-Smuggling Unit (ASU) of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Customs Services Department.
The controlled substance was discovered aboard a commercial vehicle with registration number ARW 498. According to officials, the consignment was in the custody of Inspector Saio Koroma, a serving police officer. The discovery prompted a joint examination involving the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) of the Sierra Leone Police and other security personnel assigned to the border post.
A detailed inventory of the seized items revealed the following:
1. 7 wraps, each containing 20 boxes, with each box holding 10 blisters of 10 capsules of 100mg tramadol
2. 10 boxes, each containing 10 blisters of 10 capsules of 100mg tramadol

The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Sierra Leonean authorities to disrupt the illegal movement and distribution of controlled drugs across national borders.
Officials note that the involvement of a police officer as custodian of the consignment raises concerns about internal accountability and highlights the continuing need for vigilance within security institutions.
