Sierra Leone Police officers at the Kabala Divisional Headquarters acting within the mandate of the National Task Force on Human Trafficking on Sunday 16th March 2024, intercepted fifty-seven (57) persons.

According to a letter from the National Secretariat Anti-Trafficking in Persons Task Force, it was stated that 57 persons were about to the trafficked to Mali.

Among the fifty-seven persons include twenty-six female adults, fourteen male children, and, seventeen female children, who are between the ages of two months to fifteen years.

The letter continued that two others Mohamed Amadu Jalloh residing at No. 19 City Road, Portee, and Mohamed Sankoh of 5 Coker Lane, Portee in Freetown have been arrested for conducting a criminal enterprise to traffic fifty-seven persons to Mali.

The letter also alleged that victims were taken from Freetown, through Makeni and Kabala in preparation to go through the porous borders of Koinadugu district to neighboring Guinea.

The National Referral Mechanism, Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), Family Support Unit (FSU,) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) within the Sierra Leone Police are investigating the matter while the presumed victims are being referred through the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Task Force Secretariat for psychosocial support.
