Abu Bakarr Yillah, a 47-year-old police officer attached to the Operations Division Wing at Kambia Police Station, was remanded in prison on Thursday, August 22, 2024, by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2. Yillah faces charges for the alleged murder of Fasineh Bangura.

The accused made his first court appearance and was arraigned on one count of murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as repealed and replaced by Section 1(a) of the schedule of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021, Act No. 6 of 2022. According to the indictment, Yillah allegedly committed the offense on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Yana Village in the Tambakha Yombagie Chiefdom, Karene Judicial District, and Northwest region.

During the court proceedings, the charge was read to Yillah, but no plea was entered, and he was not represented by legal counsel. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, the prosecutor, informed the court that his witnesses were absent and requested an adjournment to subpoena them.

Magistrate Bangura granted the request and remanded Yillah in custody. The case has been adjourned to August 26, 2024, for further hearing.
