The Criminal Investigation Department of the Sierra Leone Police have revealed a development following recent operations. During a news conference held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Assistant Commander of Police Allieu Jalloh, head of the CID, detailed the apprehension of three distinct groups of suspects linked to armed robbery.
ACP Jalloh reported that the first group was arrested while in possession of a firearm and 44 rounds of ammunition. Further investigations uncovered a machine used for producing counterfeit currency, which has reportedly infiltrated local markets. “We also discovered numerous documents, including fake police clearances, falsified Freetown City Council documents, drivers’ licences, WASSCE certificates, and birth certificates,” Jalloh stated, highlighting the breadth of criminal activities associated with the group.
The second group, comprising three individuals, was similarly found with a gun and ammunition. Through thorough searches, police traced empty bullet shells back to locations associated with these alleged robbers, reinforcing the connection between firearms and the ongoing crime wave.
A third group was apprehended in Waterloo. Although no weapons were found in their possession, Jalloh noted that preliminary findings suggested similarities to the other groups involved in armed robbery, indicating a wider network of criminal activity.
Emphasizing the potential threat these individuals pose to public safety, Jalloh reassured citizens of the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the nation. “We are dedicated to ensuring that the public can feel safe in their communities,” he affirmed.
In a related development, Southern Regional Commander Brima Kanneh provided updates on the operations in the southern region via a Google meet response. He reported that over the last two weeks, a total of nine individuals were arrested in connection with armed robbery, with seven now facing charges in court.
Additionally, Assistant Inspector General Martin John Senesie, Director of Operations at SLP, addressed ongoing investigations into the controversial yacht, the Agios Basseterre, which reportedly had three Filipino crew members on board. Urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation, AIG Senesie clarified that initial investigations did not indicate any cocaine suspicion nor security concerns related to the vessel. “No cocaine was found in the preliminary investigations,” he stated.
When queried about the origins of the discovered firearms, AIG Senesie confirmed that none belonged to the SLP or the Sierra Leone Armed Forces, emphasizing that all weapons under SLP and military control are properly marked.
