Mrs Matilda Doris Sellu, Wife of The Inspector general of police (IGP) Mr William Fayia Sellu has been unveiled as the new Team Manager of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Female Football Team.
As per tradition in the SLP, at any time a new IGP is appointed, the wife automatically becomes the Manager of the Female Football Team. It is based on this tradition, that Mrs Sellu inherited the position of managing the SLP Female Football Team.
The well-attended ceremony took place at the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association Hall at Kingtom and was graced by a plethora of female football players and a host of other senior Police officers.
Immediately after she was unveiled, Mrs Sellu, who doubles as the President of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association, dedicated the position to God Almighty whom she believed would endow her with wisdom to execute her new role as Team Manager.
She admitted having little knowledge about the rules of the game of football; but hoped that her new position would help her quickly learn about the game and thereby increase her knowledge about the sport of football, generally. She promised to be hard-working to leave a long-lasting legacy in the history of sports in the SLP.
The IGP, whose direct supervision is the sporting department pledged to support all sporting disciplines in the SLP during his era, to achieve new sporting records.
He also acknowledged not having fully competed in sporting activities during his childhood and adolescent stages; however revealed to have recently become an admirer of sporting activities, which he said, helps to sharpen the brain.
He promised that his administration would focus on improving sporting activities in the Sierra Leone Police.
