Koidu City, Kono District, experienced a heavy downpour of rain on the evening of Tuesday, October 1, 2024, leading to the flooding of the city’s largest and most well-known trading hub, Gbense Market.

The sudden flood caught many traders and buyers off guard, leaving stalls submerged and goods damaged.

Speaking to this medium, several traders expressed their concerns over the recurring issue. One of the traders highlighted the responsibility of the city council, stating, “The primary responsibility of any city council is to protect the traders and seek their welfare within the city. We are calling on the council to help our poor mothers at the market.”

The traders appealed for immediate action from the Koidu New Sembehun City Council to address the drainage system and prevent future flooding. They emphasized the need for better infrastructure to safeguard their businesses and protect livelihoods.

The flooding in Gbense Market continues to be a pressing concern for traders, many of whom rely on daily sales to support their families. The community is urging local authorities to prioritize their welfare in the wake of this disaster.
