Residents of Kissy are calling for urgent action to rehabilitate the Old Road, saying its deteriorating condition has made movement increasingly difficult for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
A resident of the Old Road area told Truth Media that the road has remained in poor condition for more than 15 years, describing the situation as a growing concern for the community.
The resident said the deterioration stretches across several sections of the route, from Blackhall Road through PWD, the barracks and Brima Lane, leaving much of the Old Road in serious disrepair.

According to the resident, the condition of the road has created difficulties for motorists and contributed to increased vehicle maintenance costs, while also raising concerns about the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
Residents are now appealing to the authorities responsible for road safety and infrastructure to intervene and address the condition of the road.
The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has a direct presence on Kissy Road, where its headquarters is located. The authority’s official website also provides a crash-reporting system that allows road users to report incidents and identify Kissy Road as a crash location.
SLRSA and the Sierra Leone Police have previously conducted operations along the eastern corridor, including the Kissy Bypass, commonly referred to as Old Road, with a focus on improving road safety and clearing obstructions.

However, residents say enforcement and road clearance alone will not resolve the wider problem and are urging the relevant authorities to address the physical condition of the Old Road.
The calls come as concerns over road safety on the Kissy Old Road corridor have previously been raised by road users, including over the condition of infrastructure along the route.
Residents are therefore appealing to SLRSA and other relevant government authorities to assess the road and take steps toward its rehabilitation, saying the condition has persisted for too long.
