Gbassay Bangura, a school teacher known as Angelo, has been remanded in custody for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
He was arrested on August 11, 2024, in Makolloh Village, Port Loko District, where he was found wearing an Operation Support Division (OSD) uniform and presenting himself as a police officer.
An additional OSD uniform, suspected to be unlawfully obtained, was also found in his possession.
Bangura appeared at Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown, facing charges of impersonation and unlawful possession of police property. Pleading not guilty, he was not represented by a lawyer.
Prosecutor Sergeant Florence M. Wilson requested an adjournment to secure key witnesses, and the court scheduled the next hearing for September 12, 2024.
The case has drawn attention to the issue of police impersonation, with authorities stressing the seriousness of such offenses as they work to enforce law and order.
