Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, visited Bo and Pujehun to engage local residents and police officers in discussions about the ongoing transition of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) from a “force” to a “service.”

This change aims to make the police more community-focused and professional, and it has already gained strong support from both the public and police.

The events took place at the Bo Methodist Youth Resource Center and the Pujehun District Council Hall, where a large turnout of community members, local leaders, and police officers gathered to learn about the changes ahead. During the sessions, IGP Sellu shared his vision for a police force that is more responsive and focused on serving the community.

“We want to change the way Policing is done in this Country. For this to work, we need your cooperation. This Transition is not just about the Police it is about all of us. A safer Sierra Leone is only possible when we work together,” said IGP Sellu.

As part of the transformation, IGP Sellu mentioned that police officers would be sent abroad for specialized training to ensure they are equipped with the best practices in law enforcement.

Police leaders, including AIG Brima Kanneh in Bo and LUC Rashid O. Koroma in Pujehun, also called for public involvement, encouraging community members to support the transition and work alongside the police to improve safety.

A community leader in Pujehun passionately stated, “This is the change we have been waiting for. We are ready to work with the Police, to report Crimes, and to ensure our Communities are safe.”
