Sierra Leone is set to launch a new innovation hub, UniPod Sierra Leone, at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, to provide young innovators with a platform to develop technology-driven ideas, collaborate and create solutions to real-world challenges.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sierra Leone announced that President Julius Maada Bio is expected to officially launch the facility on July 9, 2026.

UniPod Sierra Leone is part of the wider timbuktoo initiative, a UNDP-supported programme aimed at strengthening innovation ecosystems across Africa by connecting technology, creativity and entrepreneurship.

The hub, hosted at Fourah Bay College, will provide students, entrepreneurs and innovators with access to tools, technology and collaborative spaces to develop projects, strengthen digital skills and transform ideas into practical solutions.

UNDP said the initiative is expected to support Sierra Leone’s digital transformation and youth development efforts by encouraging innovation in areas such as software development, engineering and entrepreneurship.

The launch will bring together government officials, development partners, academics and members of the innovation community as Sierra Leone continues efforts to expand opportunities in science, technology and innovation.

UniPod Sierra Leone is expected to serve as a platform where young people can share ideas, test concepts, build partnerships and contribute to the country’s technological development. Its long-term impact will depend on how effectively innovators and stakeholders utilise the facility after its launch.
