The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Umar Paran Tarawallie, has expressed his support for the party potentially selecting the First Lady as its next presidential flagbearer, saying such a move would position the SLPP as the first political party in Sierra Leone to produce a female President.
Speaking to Truth Media, the former Clerk of Parliament stated, “It is clear the SLPP will emerge victorious in the next general elections.” He further emphasized his commitment to women’s rights and urged the party to make history by promoting female leadership.
According to Tarawallie, endorsing a female flagbearer would not only demonstrate the party’s commitment to gender equality but also set a historic precedent in the country’s political landscape.
He reiterated his desire for the SLPP to lead the way in advancing women’s representation at the highest level of national leadership.
