The Event Officer of the Street Child Sierra Leone Marathon tenth edition, Holly Jackman, has confirmed that the sign-up which will earn local runners the ticket to participate in any of the four events has commenced in Freetown, Makeni, and their other offices across the country while the process will climax on the eve of the race day Saturday, April 29th, 2023.
Newsfeed Sierra Leone reported that the event officer disclosed the commencement of the sign-up with delight after they received the green light from the Ministry of Sports to hold the Street Child Sierra Leone Marathon five-day event in April, especially within the week of the country’s 62nd independence anniversary.
She stated the tenth edition has attracted over seventy international runners across Europe that have sign-up to confirm their participation and will arrive in Sierra Leone before the independence day and added that
“We will soon confirm again the e-money sign-up via Afrimoney, this year’s event will be historic, and very attractive to our international runners because they will be yearning to know more about the Sierra Leone culture, especially about the independence day celebration,” she intimated.
Jackman affirmed that the race day is on Sunday, 30th April, and reiterated that the cycling event is a pilot phase featuring a few international cyclists
“We have a total of five events this time around, and for the cycling, it is not a race, we have started working with the local cyclists and they will guide our international cyclists on the path to follow, we are doing a pilot phase from our assessment we will know whether there is a need to include it as a race and also make it open to the local cyclists in the subsequent editions” she revealed.
However, the sign-up fee amount for the various events increases slightly ranging from the 5Kilometres which is now NLe 40K, NLe 80K for the 10Kilometres, the half marathon is NLe 120K, and 200K for the full marathon, funds generated are used to fulfill their mandate as Street Child Sierra Leone is a local non-governmental organization that supports vulnerable children.
