Law enforcement officials led by Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General of Police Brima Kanneh, have recorded another notable arrest, in response to rising concerns over drug abuse.
Yayah Jalloh of Devil Road, Freetown, was apprehended at the Gelehun Checkpoint on the Liberia Jendema Highway with five cartons of tramadol.
Officials at the checkpoint disclosed that the arrest followed a meticulous search, underscoring the importance of such security measures.
Yayah Jalloh, route to Monrovia, was intercepted during the early hours of Sunday, March 17, 2024.
“The Sierra Leone Police remain steadfast in their efforts to combat drug trafficking, resulting in tangible progress in curbing the availability of illicit substances like Kush, Cannabis-Sativa, and Tramadol,” stated AIG Kanneh.
Emphasizing their commitment to community safety, the Regional Commander reiterated their resolve to purge illegal drugs from the region.
The Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) is actively investigating the drug’s origin and pursuing other suspects involved in the illicit trade.
Jalloh is currently detained and will face charges related to drug trafficking. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious drug-related activities to aid in the fight against substance abuse.
