A young man, yet to be identified, has died following a suspected mob justice attack along the Bo-Kenema Highway, opposite Bagbo Hills in Bo City.
The victim, who was reportedly beaten and left by the roadside on Sunday night, remained at the scene until late Monday afternoon when his death was confirmed.
According to residents, the incident began shortly after midnight on Sunday when the man was allegedly found inside a private compound. Community members, suspecting him of attempted theft, reportedly apprehended and brutally assaulted him before dragging his unconscious body to the roadside.
By Monday morning, passers-by discovered the victim motionless, showing signs of severe injuries consistent with prolonged assault. “He was beaten beyond recognition. By the time we saw him, he was already gone,” a witness said.
Although his identity is still unknown, some residents suggested he might have come from Tikonko Town, though authorities have not confirmed this information.
The case has intensified public concern over the recurring rise of mob justice in Bo and other communities across Sierra Leone. Rights groups have repeatedly condemned the act, warning that such killings bypass due process and risk punishing innocent individuals.
As of press time, the Sierra Leone Police had not issued an official statement, and it remains unclear whether any suspects have been identified or arrested.
Residents in the area are urging authorities to immediately remove the body and launch a full investigation.
