As part of their social corporate responsibility, TAS Stores Company, a cocoa dealing company in Kenema, Eastern part of sierra Leone has supported the Eastern Technical university with Le103,000,000, for support of the expansion of the university mosque.

The adherence to the cooperate social responsibilities and continuous support to the government for development has been one key intervention of private business individuals and companies in Sierra Leone.

Alhaji Amin Skykay, the Chief Executive Officer and a core staff of TAS Stores Company, said the money is the Company’s support for the expansion of the University Mosque.

In his handing over courtesy, the business tycoon briefly talked about various supports his company has given the Region and the then Eastern Polytechnic. Like; provisions for internship reliefs students of Agriculture and Social Science Businesses, job creation, construction of the school, and more.

“On behalf of my company, I want to call on all to help build more schools and invest hugely in Agriculture cause it is the backbone of a strong economy. I implore all students to always believe in God and work hard to achieve their aims always;” he said.

skykay further noted that, “Capacity building is very important for every nation, the government should not forget to encourage more teachers/lecturers so they can be happy to impact knowledge in our future generations”.

“When the students of this school wrote to me for assistance to the school, I couldn’t refuse, cause I have a strong belief that the government and the administration of the Eastern Technical University believe in incapacitating young people,” he added.

In his statement, the Registrar of the University, Mr. John Juana, expressed delight and thanked TAS STORES for their contributions to the institution and the community at large. He clearly stated that the University belongs to the entire community of Sierra Leone and Africa and the community as well belongs to the University. And that should be a strong reason why other individuals and business entities should emulate TAS STORES.

“The Lebanese Community, for now, are the largest contributors of Le 250.000.000.00(Two Million and Fifty Thousand Leones) to the University Trust Fund that was formed sometimes back. We have decided to publicly but respectfully name any individual of a firm that may at anytime contribute to the University Trust Fund. As the University currently have over six thousand(6000) students, the expansion of the Masjid is of great relevance and we want to thank Amin and his team for this great support and we hope such continues,” the Registrar retorted.

In his thank you message, the chairman of Kenema District Council, Mr. Mohamed O’Level Sesay, acknowledged that TAS STORES is the only business entity that has taken such a bold step. He however made it clear that he was not surprised, as the company has been helpful to people within the region and the country in general.

“Over the past few years, TAS STORES through Amin has been doing a lot of developmental activities in the District like; awarding of scholarships, rehabilitation and construction of PHUs, provision of jobs, and host of others. so, I’m very happy for what is happening here today, and on behalf of the district council we commend their work,” the chairman stated.
