A teacher, Mohamed Fornah, from Kehklee-Lakkoh Memorial Agricultural Secondary School (KMASS) in Tonkolili District, has been charged with embezzling school funds.
He was responsible for collecting pupil admission fees for the 2024–2025 academic year, which included costs for uniforms and other items, totaling 23,180 NLe. However, Fornah only accounted for 6,200 NLe, leaving a balance of 16,980 NLe unaccounted for.
The school, facing financial challenges due to delayed government subventions, grew suspicious and reported the matter to the Mile 91 Police Station.
Following a police investigation, Fornah was charged with Fraudulent Conversion of School Funds and is currently in custody as the case goes before the Magistrate Court in Magburaka.
The incident has raised concerns about financial accountability in schools, prompting the KMASS administration to review its financial oversight systems to prevent future occurrences.
The educational community is closely following the case, hoping it will set a standard for financial transparency in schools across Sierra Leone.
