Teachers of the UMC School at Makorogba, Yoni Mabanta Chiefdom in the Tonkolili District, Northern Sierra Leone, are seeking to draw the attention of the government to the dilapidated state the UMC School is in, after a heavy storm ripped off it roof.
According to one of the teachers, the unfortunate incident which lead to the present state of the school, occurred on Thursday, the 5th May, 2022.
She made a video of the current state of the UMC School, showing the roofless building with flooded classrooms and the collapsed wooden boundaries that separated one classroom from the other.
According to her, even after the school building had been placed in a bad state for over a week now, the pupils have not stayed home as a result of that, but are going to the school everyday with hope to be taught.
But because the building has no roof and it’s left open as of now, the class rooms have been soaked and filled with rain water thus making it hard for them to teach these pupils.
She added that these children are persevered and want to be educated but they the teachers are finding it hard to teach them under an unprotected building.
She therefore called on the Government to come to their aid and help these children acquire education, as education is the key to success.
