A 13-year-old juvenile victim, Kadiatu Sesay (not her real name), on Friday 9th December 2022 testified in court on an alleged sexual penetration matter.

The accused, Abubakarr Koroma is standing trial for Sexual Penetration before Justice Momo-Jah Stevens on one count under Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act 2019, Act No. 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by Section 4 of the Sexual Amendment Act 2019 Act No. 8 of 2019.

According to the Particulars of Offence, the accused Abubakarr Koroma between the 1st to 30th June 2022 in Freetown was allegedly found engaging in sexual penetration with a girl under the age of consent.

The victim was led by State Counsel lawyer Pious Jr. who also cross-examined three other witnesses including the two victims.

The 13-year-old witness recognized the accused as her uncle and recalled that on 30th June, he sexually penetrated her.

She furthered that when her mother went to the market to do business, the accused called her inside his room and removed her pant, and inserted his penis into her vagina.

It was alleged that the accused threatened her if she disclosed the act to anyone.

The witness continued that she later informed her mother who did not make any complaint to the police, neither went to the hospital nor rainbow Centre.

The 1st Prosecution witness (PW1) also explained the same.

Detective Police Constable (DPC) 12249 Sára Conteh attached to the Family Support Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Freetown recognized the victims and the accused and recalled that on 21st June 2022 whilst duty her boss informed her about the case and the two the victims involved.

The incident accordingly happened in Waterloo at the Benguma Primary School and was reported to the Waterloo Police Station.

The Prosecution witness also noted that they visited the school and interviewed the victim.

Detective Police Constable 14160 Conteh F interviewed the accused who made a confessional statement.

A medical request form was given to the victims which they later returned and endorsed.

The matter was adjourned to 19th December 2022.
