Magistrate Joseph Toby of the Sefadu Magistrate Court in Kono District on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, convicted and sentenced two individuals in separate cases of larceny and fraudulent conversion under the Larceny Act of 1916.

In the first case, Willie Tumoe Junior was sentenced to one year and six months imprisonment or a fine of Le 4,500,000 after pleading guilty to charges of larceny. Tumoe was accused of stealing two rubber chairs valued at Le 1,000, property of Dauda Koroma, which were in the custody of Christian Mafinda. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Yardu Road in Koidu City, Gbense Chiefdom, Kono District. The prosecution was led by Sgt 9407 Kabia, while Tumoe was represented by lawyer A.O. Kamara.

In a separate case, Tamba Minnah was convicted of fraudulent conversion under Section 20 (1) (IV) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916. Minnah fraudulently converted an unregistered motorbike valued at Le 6,000, property of Amadu Taidu Tarawallie, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Hill Station, Gbense Chiefdom, Koidu City. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment after pleading guilty. The prosecution was handled by PC 17273 Kancssle SS.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Toby discharged two other accused persons, Zakaria Kamara and Sahr Mansaray, who were facing charges of housebreaking and larceny. The magistrate ruled that the prosecution failed to present witnesses for a speedy trial, leading to the dismissal of both cases.
