The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) has expressed profound shock and sorrow following the tragic death of journalist Samuel Brima Mattia, who was found murdered in Waterloo.
Samuel, a dedicated journalist working for Radio VOPAD 96.5 FM, was known for his commitment to serving the community through his media work.
In a press release, WARDC condemned the heinous act as not only a significant loss to the media fraternity but also a grave attack on freedom of speech and the safety of residents in the district. “This brutal and senseless act of violence is unacceptable and must be met with swift justice,” the Council stated.
WARDC has called on the Sierra Leone Police to conduct an immediate, thorough, and impartial investigation into the incident to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The Council emphasized the importance of protecting journalists and ensuring that such acts of violence do not go unpunished.
The Council extended its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Samuel Brima Mattia, standing in solidarity with the media community during this difficult time. WARDC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts to safeguard the rights and safety of all residents in the Western Area Rural District.
