A 32-year-old businesswoman, Aminata Koroma of 182 Regent Road, Freetown, appeared in court following her arrest on May 17, 2024, on allegations of domestic violence. She is charged under Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007 for allegedly abusing her boyfriend, Mohamed Mustangs Sam Kabba.

According to the charge sheet, the alleged abuse occurred between August 1 and September 7, 2023, while the couple lived together at Regent Road, Lumley in Freetown. The court was informed that the two were in a domestic relationship during the period of the reported abuse.

Testifying before the court, Detective Police Constable Edward Serintin, attached to the Family Support Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department on Pademba Road, provided a detailed account of the investigation. Serintin, a resident of 30B Wellington, Freetown, stated that Aminata voluntarily reported to the police station on January 10, 2024, while he was on duty.

Following orders from his superior, Inspector Abubakar Kamara, a formal statement was taken from Aminata. The questioning session, which was conducted by Serintin and Detective Inspector Mattia MH, was done in Krio, with her responses recorded in English. The written statement was later read back to her in Krio for verification. According to Serintin, Aminata confirmed the contents of the statement as true and signed it willingly. The document was tendered in court as Exhibit A1–12.

During cross-examination, defense counsel Gavawo questioned Serintin about whether Aminata had denied the allegations during the interview. While the officer initially claimed she had not denied them, he later admitted he could not clearly recall.

When asked whether a search was conducted at Aminata’s residence as part of the investigation, Serintin responded that he was not the lead investigator and could not confirm.
