A 19-year-old, Emma Morlia Sesay, has been remanded to the female correctional center in Freetown after Magistrate Santigie Bangura ruled on February 12, 2025, that she should remain in custody while facing charges of child theft.

The incident, which allegedly occurred on November 13, 2024, in the Fort Street area, involves Sesay reportedly taking a one-week-old baby boy, Mustapha Sesay, from his parents without their consent.

The prosecution, led by Sergeant Florence M. Wilson, presented its second witness, Martha Sesay, a businesswoman and neighbor of the accused. Martha testified that on the day of the incident, Emma approached her, claiming to have just given birth. Emma then took the baby, and after some time, disappeared with him. Despite searching for her, Martha was unable to locate Emma or the child.

Later that night, Martha was informed by police in Makeni that Emma had been arrested there with the baby. The following day, Martha traveled to the Rogbameh police station, where she confirmed the baby had been taken from her and was relieved to have him returned after giving her statement.

Emma’s lawyer, A.N.D Musa, requested bail for the accused during cross-examination, but the magistrate denied it, citing the gravity of the charges. The case has been adjourned until February 19, 2025, for further proceedings.
