The High Court in Kono has sentenced 20-year-old Amos Aiah Daniel to life imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 2-year-old child, an act that resulted in her death on 4th March 2026.

Resident High Court Judge Honourable Justice Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura delivered the sentence at the Gbense Chiefdom court.

Daniel, of No. 9 Sandor Street, Koidu City, was convicted on three counts: Sexual Penetration of a Child under Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act 2012 as amended, Meeting a Child for Sexual Purposes, and Sexual Touching.

The court imposed life imprisonment on count one, and 10 years each on counts two and three, with the sentences to run concurrently.

In his judgment, Justice Bangura described the convict’s conduct as despicable and unimaginable. He said Daniel had robbed the nation of a potential future leader, noting the victim could have grown to become a president, judge, doctor, or other professional. The judge stated that such brutality against a child warranted the toughest punishment available under law.

State Counsel Charles Foday Sesay told the court the convict had a previous conviction and was already standing trial for another felony.

Defence Counsel Alpha Osman Kamara Esq., in mitigation, said Daniel pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and cooperated during investigation, urging the court to temper justice with mercy.

Justice Bangura acknowledged the guilty plea saving court time but emphasised the gravity of the offence in passing sentence.
