A group of 150 Sierra Leonean Hajj pilgrims has arrived safely at Madina International Airport, the Hajj Committee announced.
The pilgrims have been accommodated at the Karam Alkhayr Hotel, located within walking distance of Masjid Nabawi, one of Islam’s holiest sites. They are awaiting the arrival of additional groups, including pilgrims from the United States, Europe, and Australia, who are scheduled to arrive on different dates.
During their stay in Madinah, the pilgrims will perform prayers at Masjid Nabawi, the mosque of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and participate in Ziyarah, a visit to the Prophet’s tomb. They will also visit Masjid Quba, the first mosque built by the Prophet after his migration from Makkah. Islamic tradition holds that offering two Rakat prayers there is equivalent to performing an Umrah.
Additionally, the pilgrims will tour other historic sites in Madinah, including the graves of early Islamic martyrs and prominent figures.
This year, Sierra Leone is expected to send 2,000 pilgrims, including 100 beneficiaries of the Saudi Royal Hajj scholarship program.
The 2025 Hajj pilgrimage is set to take place from June 4 to June 9, corresponding to the 8th to the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 in the Islamic calendar.
