Moses Mambu, an aspirant for the position of National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, SLPP, has defended his move from civil society to full-time politics.
Speaking during an online interview, Mambu explained that joining active politics does not change his commitment to serve in the interest of the people.
He responded to ongoing debates about the number of civil society members transitioning into politics. Mambu explained that his work within the SLPP aligns with public service and that there is no conflict between the interests of the party and the needs of the people. He believes that working from within a political structure can also be a way to bring about real and lasting change.
According to him, the SLPP was created with the aim of representing Sierra Leoneans after colonial rule, and that mission has remained the same. He noted that the values of the party are built around unity and national development, referring to the party’s motto, One Country One People. He added that the SLPP’s roots are tied to the people and the country’s history, and this connection is what continues to guide its actions.
Mambu said the SLPP has always worked across regions and backgrounds and described it as the largest political party in Sierra Leone and one of the oldest in sub-Saharan Africa. He said the party is open to all, regardless of background or location, and that this openness is one of its biggest strengths. He believes that membership in the SLPP offers a strong foundation for advocating change and delivering long-term benefits to the country.
He stated that the SLPP is not only concerned with present challenges but also puts plans in place for future generations. As an example, he pointed to the Free Quality Education initiative introduced in 2018. He noted that while its full effect may not be seen immediately, many students who benefited from the program are already attending universities, and the real impact will become clearer in the next decade. He explained that programs like this are designed with the future in mind and may take years before their true results are fully seen.
Mambu maintained that there will be no point where he would need to choose between the SLPP and the people, as he believes the SLPP represents the people and their interests. He sees his political involvement as a way to continue the work he began in civil society. He said the goal remains the same, to speak for the people, stand by them, and help build a better future, but the path he is taking has simply shifted.
Mambu said that moving from civil society to politics is not about changing sides but about using a different platform to serve the same purpose. He believes that the values that guided him in civil society still guide him today, and his focus on public interest has not changed. He said he is ready to serve and use the experience he gained to continue supporting Sierra Leoneans in every way he can.

Hmmmm,
This is the end game. Now we know you were not honest and objective to the people of this country. No wonder you have been so vocal on matters relating to party politics
You owe apologies to the people of this country, not for going into active politics, but you have been deceiving them.
