The Ministry of Communications, Technology, and Innovation (MoCTI) on Monday 30th September 2024 welcomed the African Development Bank (AfDB) to Sierra Leone for a pivotal meeting centered around the ambitious Fɛlei Tech City project.
The meeting, which brought together key players from the private sector, marked a significant step forward in the realization of the tech city initiative. Deputy Minister Ibrahim Sannoh emphasized the government’s role as a facilitator, stating, “The Fɛlei Tech City concept is a private sector-driven endeavor. Our focus is on providing the necessary resources and support to enable the private sector to take the lead.”
The interactive session offered a platform for open dialogue between the private sector, the AfDB, and MoCTI, fostering a collaborative approach to project planning and execution.
As part of their visit from September 30th to October 4th, 2024, the AfDB is conducting an appraisal mission under the Transition Support Facility (TSF). The mission aims to explore how technology can enhance development finance, minimize waste, and optimize resource utilization.
The AfDB’s involvement in the Fɛlei Tech City project signals a significant boost to Sierra Leone’s efforts to position itself as a regional technology hub. The project’s success could have far-reaching implications for economic growth, job creation, and digital innovation in the country.
