The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Human Resources, AIG James Musa, addressed police recruits at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy in Hastings on Friday, 24 April 2026.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to nurture well-disciplined and professional officers, aimed at strengthening operational readiness and service delivery across the country.
In his address, AIG Musa underscored the importance of discipline, patriotism, and professionalism as fundamental values expected of every police officer. He emphasized that these principles are essential in shaping a modern police service capable of meeting contemporary security challenges.

AIG Musa further explained that the purpose of his visit was to verify and identify recruits who will be selected for the Advanced Public Order Training (APOTS) at Samu. He described the training as a critical component in equipping officers with the necessary skills to effectively manage public order situations and contribute to national security.
Furthermore, ACP Joe Kamanda-Bongay, Acting Director of Training, encouraged the recruits to remain committed to the core principles of policing. He stressed that integrity, discipline, and dedication to duty are vital in building public trust and confidence, particularly as the SLP continues its transition from a “force” to a “service.”
He noted that the Executive Management Board is determined to select the most competent candidates for the advanced training programme, with the aim of enhancing overall service delivery.

Additionally, ACP Kamanda-Bongay further urged the recruits to regard the opportunity as both a privilege and a responsibility, calling on them to represent the Sierra Leone Police with honour and distinction.
Finally, the session concluded with a renewed call for all recruits to uphold the highest standards of conduct as they prepare to take on more specialized roles within the Sierra Leone Police.
