The Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has reacted to yesterday’s Announcement by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) on the demarcation of Constituency and Ward Boundaries in Sierra Leone.
This reaction came after the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone had announced that they are conducting Boundary Delimitation exercises for the demarcation of Constituency and Ward Boundaries in Sierra Leone.
The Mayor is not pleased with the ECSL’s decision and is deeply concerned with the negative impact of this decision on resource allocation considering the census was brewed specifically to favour the chances of the ruling SLPP regime in the forthcoming election.
In reacting she wrote these thoughtful words on her timeline:
“The #provisional results of the mid-term census with a 42.5% reduction in #Freetown’s population do not align with reality but will be used for boundary delimitation according to the ECSL? The negative impacts of this on resource allocation, the development of the city and on the lives of Freetonians can not be overstated! Integrity of data is key to a successful census; Freetown’s population is clearly growing, it has not reduced from 1,055,964 in 2015 to 606,701 in 2021!”
