The All People’s Congress (APC) has joined key stakeholders in a follow-up meeting convened by the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) to assess progress on implementing the Tripartite Recommendations, with a December target driving current efforts.
The meeting, held at the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, brought together APC representatives, National Moral Guarantors, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, and other relevant institutions. Discussions reviewed commitments undertaken, agreed timelines, and outstanding actions required to meet implementation deadlines.
The engagement served as a follow-up to the most recent meeting with International Moral Guarantors, who have been monitoring implementation of the Agreement for National Unity signed between the Government and the APC in October 2023. The Tripartite Committee’s 80 recommendations cover electoral, institutional, and legal reforms requiring constitutional amendments.
The Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat has developed a comprehensive implementation tracking matrix and continues convening monthly inter-agency meetings involving Electoral Management Bodies and implementing institutions. Progress has included regional consultations on electoral system reforms, nationwide public education across all 16 districts, and constitutional and electoral law reform initiatives undertaken by the Attorney General’s Office.
The ICPNC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering dialogue, strengthening trust among stakeholders, and supporting successful implementation of the recommendations in the interest of lasting peace and national cohesion. The Commission’s peacebuilding efforts have contributed to Sierra Leone climbing two places in the 2025 Global Peace Index, now ranked 57th out of 163 countries.
